Almost falling in the Grand Canyon
May 18, 2008Wow!!!!!! what an amazing trip. I think that i am suffering from sensory overload. I have seen so many cool things/beautiful places in the past week that scared that it is dulling my senses. I am trying my best to take it all in but it is just sooo much sooo fast. though the grand canyon was cool and all i was just there last year with some good friends and had so many great stories from that trip that it kind of over shadowed this one. Well…..i didn’t have this site up then so i guess i will tell you this little story now.
Me and my buddy Eric were out at the grand canyon last year and we kind of went out past the sign that says “don’t go past this sign”. i know…..not the smartest thing i have ever done but we thought “this will be fun and we can get some great pictures”. So we climbed way out on to this rock and sat down and took it all in. It was amazing!!!!! But then when we got ready to go back we found that it was WAY EASIER to climb out there than it was to climb back. so there we were trying our best to jump up on this rock with out falling off the one we were standing on with out much luck (both of us ate alot of twinkies on this trip and weren’t in the best shape of our lives). Well the sight of us watching one another made us laugh and when one of us gets started the other would follow in. Laughing so hard that your eyes water up is not the best thing to have happen when you are on the edge of the biggest canyon in the world. As we stopped to catch our breath and stop laughing we looked up the canyon to see that we had developed a good size audience. Standing safely behind the railing up the canyon was a very large group of tourist with cameras in hand taking in this amazing sight. Well that made us laugh that much harder…….what that must have looked like to them. We are pretty sure that they saw two hippies that went too far out on the canyon and had a bit too much of the weed. Scared out of our minds and laughing about it we managed to jump to safety and then walked up and out of the canyon to find our buddy mark sitting safely inside the lodge where he bought us one of the best dinners we have ever had. I will never forget that day.
I did get lost this year but i will have to tell you guys about that another time.
i got a passport book

May 15, 2008Let it begin
May 12, 2008The National Parks trip is underway….. For those of ya’ll that don’t know i am taking a group of students from Montreat College in Black Mountain NC on a tour of National Parks, 20 parks in 25 days. We have converted the Chuck wagon (a 45 foot entertainer coach owned by Angelos Mobile Ministry that usually sleeps 12) in to a portable home for 21 people. Picture will follow.
Chuck, Zac and myself arrived in Black Mountain in the middle of what looked to be the beginning stages of a hurricane. It took 3 hours to load all 21 people and there belonging/food in to the bus. We finally got on the road and headed for the first National park at 3:30am. We only have 1,807 miles till we arrive at the painted desert with 21 people……this should be fun.
